The Christian Mystical Tradition in the Medieval Centuries


Reading and discussion of the writings of medieval Christian mystics (in translation). Each year offers a special focus, such as: Women at Prayer; Fourteenth-Century Mystics; Spanish Mystics. Less well-known writers (Hadewijch, Birgitta of Sweden, Catherine of Genoa) as well as giants (Eckhart, Ruusbroec, Tauler, Suso, Teresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich, Catherine of Siena, and Bernard of Clairvaux) are included. Also offered as a Divinity School course, and as Religion 742. Open to juniors and seniors only.
